Manufacturing and Device Processing Management Reimagined at STERIS Sheffield
The beginning of January hailed not only a new year, but a first of its kind partnership for STERIS IMS and high-precision implant systems manufacturer Medartis Ltd.
Medartis (a Swiss based medical engineering high-precision implant manufacturer) provides osteosynthesis implants, specifically cranio-maxillofacial surgery as well as upper and lower extremities. A symbiotic relationship between Medartis and STERIS was created when Medartis began researching around a requirement for a dedicated decontamination service for its Customers. This research culminated in STERIS IMS Sheffield facility repurposing space within its existing facility to create a dedicated Medartis decontamination service for its osteosynthesis products.

Although the service has only been operational for 2 months, there was over a years’ worth of groundwork and preparation put in place beforehand by our teams and the STERIS team to ensure its success. We can now offer a dedicated loan service in the UK and in close proximity to our head office and couriers. The location is delivering significant benefits for our UK business. It enables us to be more responsive to our customer needs, gives us the ability to cater to last minute requests and gives our sales team the knowledge and confidence that we will have set availability when they need it.
Not only has the service at Sheffield facilitated efficiencies but it has significantly reduced Medartis’ set turnaround time by over 50% when compared to pre-collaboration with STERIS. The localised approach has also meant that Medartis Customers are now part of a localised supply chain without the reliance on European logistics where sets were regularly sent to and from the European mainland.”
